Tablet PCs
A. Cleaning (Note: The computer should be off when cleaning.)
a. Keyboard and Touch Pad
- A can of compressed air can be used to remove dust from the slots / holes and between the keys on the keyboard.
- Moisten a soft, lint-free cloth with water and wipe the computer and keyboard.
- For a touch pad, do not allow water from the cloth to seep between the touch pad and the surrounding palm rest.
b. The Screen
- There are many cleaners sold specifically as LCD cleaners.
- Other options are water or isopropyl alcohol.
- Apply the cleaner to the cloth; don’t spray cleaner on the display.
B. General “Don’ts”
a. Avoid subjecting your computer to extremes of temperature and humidity.
b. Avoid bumps and drops.
c. Avoid leaving your tablet in insecure locations on and off campus. Don't leave your computer bag visible in a parked vehicle.
C. Proper Care of Batteries
a. Plug in your tablet when you can. The fewer times the batteries are charged and drained, the longer they last.
D. Carry and store the computer in a carrying case.
a. Remove any external devices attached to the computer.
b. Either shut down, hibernate the computer, or place the computer in Stand By mode.
c. Close the lid of the tablet so glass screen and keyboard face each other.
d. Use a carrying case to pack the computer and its accessories. Do not place anything in the bag that will apply excessive pressure to the tablet.
E. Create a back up strategy for yourself.
a. How often will you back up?
b. What will you back up to? An external hard drive, the school's server, a USB memory device, or a CD/DVD?
F. Don't ignore messages from your antivirus software,
Kaspersky. ![]()
a. See the IT Helpdesk regarding warning messages. Its icon is located in the lower right corner of the screen, but it might be hidden under an arrow.
b. Some programs that are malware try to mimic anti-virus software messages. Be careful to not install or run programs that aren't Kaspersky.
